Tbh it depends on how much people who didn't like Frieren S1 come back
There's no real point in marking down Frieren S2 if S1 keeps its astronomical score (after all, its competition for number 1 would no longer be FMA:B, it'd be... Frieren S1) so idk if there'll be as strong a hatewagon
As for in general, I've read the manga and if it covers what I expect it to, I'd probably give it a higher score but I also liked the exam arc the most out of everything in the first season so my tastes aren't with the majority
It sorta depends on who tunes into S2, but I don't think we can just discount that to earn a higher score than S1, it would have to be the highest ranked anime on MAL. That is, it's not enough for it to be good, it has to keep the hype going as much as the first season did, too.
If the intrinsic quality of the series were exactly as good as S1, there are two effects I'd imagine will determine the rating:
1. People who already like S1 will be more likely to watch S2 than the more general audience S1 got (pushes rating up)
2. People who watched S1 won't consider what the series brings to the table as unique as they did when watching S1 (pushes rating down)
From what I've seen of people talking about it, I think a lot of its appeal is that it's got enough fights to bring in people who normally watch mostly battle shonen and expose them to slice of life. I don't think anything it does for its slice of life elements is crazy groundbreaking compared to other shows that are focused on that (which is not to say that it doesn't do a great job with them), but a lot of people I see talking about it seem primarily to have watched action shows. So I think there's a possibility that it might get a slightly lower rating just because people won't find the slice of life stuff as new/different/exciting as they did when they first watched S1. On the other hand, if it's still the only show they watch that has those elements, they might like it just as much as before.
Overall, I think it's going to come down to whether it does enough for people who liked S1 to think it's better than S1, not necessarily whether it is able to impress new fans.
I mean typically on average less people add second seasons for shows as such less people rating a show so it probably will be higher regardless of which season is better
I do think S1 is overrated as fuck, but I won't deny the production quality of it, it's great and deserves some praise there, still overrated tho, but if S2 maintains that same quality then it will easily reach top 3 with all the hype surrounding it.
I don't think it will surpass S1 because everyone, their dogs, and their grandmas are riding the bandwagon on that one, but S2 will at least be top 3 with all the hype surrounding this overrated anime.
Lastly, just because I call it overrated doesn't mean that it's bad. It's a great anime, and I rated it an 8/10. I would even rate it 8.5/10 if I could, but I don't think it deserves a 9/10 from me. That anime is way too slow, and I did complain a couple of times because of it.
"All truth is meaningless. In the end, 'meaning' comes from the mind of each individual human. Even when there is a single truth, it can mean different things to different individuals. The truth has no meaning in itself!" - Erika Furudo
I actually don't think so. The expectations are much higher now; the first season basically came out of nowhere and surprised most of us with how brilliant it was.
Big shoes to fill - though I hope it does well. Plenty of good shit to adapt
I personally think it's overrated, but if the story is just the same as the previous season plus keeping the same animation quality, probably easy top 3.
If the writing and the animation will be at least on the same level as s1, definitely yes since those who didn't like s1 will be less likely to watch s2. Will that be the case though?
- writing-wise, according to manga readers, it looks like s2 will be just as good or even better than s1. However, what really matters is how much action there will be (the score of s1 while it was airing always increased in correspondence with the most action-packed episodes, and was falling after a few episodes in a row with no action).
- animation-wise, it will be very hard to replicate the quality of s1. I still expect something well above average, but I'd be surprised if it will be par with s1.
I enjoyed the anime, but I didnβt think it ranked #1.
Having a second season, might ruin the special uniqueness of the first season.
Note: I donβt lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.
Sequels generally have a higher rating than the original season unless the quality dips significantly. Because obviously people who hate the first season isn't going to watch further and give a lower rating.
Yup, the next arc that this season will probably cover is one of the best arcs (or the best arc) in all Frieren manga, so is probably that this season will have a grater score than the first season
Well, all the haters who dropped season 1 will not be watching season 2, so yes, it is likely to have a higher MAL score than season 1. Then again, the second season of Apothecary Diaries somehow currently has a lower score than season 1, so... it really is 50/50.
