What book / manga (or other media) made you cry?

I've yet to cry while reading, and I'm not tryna be a tuff guy lol ;P
But the closest I've ever been though was recently with Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan, I had to actually lean back a bit and just let my emotions ride out before I could continue. This happened more than once too while reading it, so it's good to know that I can probably cry with written material, and in a weird way I'm looking forward to doing so now that I know my weakness lies hidden in the Romance and drama Genre.

umineko more times than i can count. so many scenes are just completely heart wrenching, but the one that still makes me well up the most is probably when beato tells battler to close his eyes on the boat ;-;

Nothing like bawling on the floor. I experienced silent cry in Karukku, Train to Pakistan, The god of small things, and some stories of Malgudi days. Not yet any bawling moments in any manga, manhua and manhwa.

Other media is music. Some folks song make me go sad dancing lmao. And video games, some part of A plague tale and Last of Us Part I, Part II just makes me angy for no reason

What book / manga (or other media) made you cry?

There were a few that got me emotional (mostly anime, especially Steins;Gate), but none of them made me cry for real

From books, The Diamond Age had some moments that moved me

Regarding music, there were two tracks where I nearly cried: From Hell from Dance With The Dead, and Kurenai from X Japan. Oh boy, that concert recording with the crowd shouting the refrain... I wish I could be there and shout with them

As for games, Forgotton Anne was a masterpiece

For Manga it's either MAL synopsis or recommendations from friends, and for books in general I skim through reddit or goodreads and see how the title generally holds up with everyone.

my plan to read list is far larger than the actual volume of works i have read, be they manga or actual novels lol so i am not starved for options. usually the thing that decides what i read next for books is me actually finding the book, and for manga its usually if i want to read it badly enough to not wait for an anime adaptation lol

Anime planet is great for recommendations that’s usually where I go

The issue is sometimes it’s bad at tagging 18+ stuff but other than than it has a very wide variety and you can get weirdly specific to find something you’ll like

I have what feels like an utterly insurmountable list of stuff that I want to read that I've accrued just by coming across things online over the years; see something that looks or sounds cool, I decide I want to read more of an author's work, or it was an inspiration for something I like - onto the list it goes. Looking at random interest stacks is also pretty fun. Anime+ seems pretty good as well for tailored recommendations. Wish I got stuff from my friends, but that's only happened maybe once unfortunately.
As for what to actually specifically read next; that's entirely down to my whims, and there is no method to the madness

I always try to catch up with my father's recommendations, aside from that I used to hunt for documentary/analysis books on interesting phenomenon, but now that I can't read them fully on archive.org my enthusiasm has receded a little

Lmao everything.. from cry laughter, being touched, relateability, sadness, pain, frustration, anger, disappointment…

Some animes i can remember: grave of the fireflies, dog of flanders, natsumes book of friends, kotarou lives alone, monster, ergo proxy, the violet series, the awful dog shit in full metal alchemist ofc, ano hana, wolfs rain, zankyou no terror

Some mangas i could mention: the music of marie (only gave it a 7 points good, but i remember crying), fruits basket, winter woods, erased, look back, piano no mori….. i dont wanna say most of the stuff in my list im too tsun… Life (Suenobu, Keiko), my broken mariko, some by sahara mizu like Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan but i can just remember the overall thing not the close ups.

I can barely remember Doll Star: Kotodama Tsukai Ihon but i remember it being one of my faves and i cried with that too… Kizu (Kiyohara, Hiro) too.

Do you like going to the library? Why?

Traditional libraries: no. Just online. I like browsing huge collections of books but I'm too shy to talk to a librarian. But even if this wasn't in the way, I don't read enough to finish a book before I have to take it back. Even if I can extend my borrowing

My library in terms of manga isn’t very good when I go there it’s always like volume 409 of one piece, volume 3 of some random shoujo and like a bunch of random scattered mangas from various series, without a volume one in sight

I did when I was in the city, but the one where I am now is a bit small. The front half doubles as a cafe so there's no real rule about noise, which is cozy in it's own way but yea. So I just buy my own books now or with Manga i'll read online

Two volumes in so far, and I shall share my thoughts on Kaze no Tani no Nausicaa:

havent been in a long time sadly, but i used to like going to the library a lot. before before highschool i would spend a lot of time there since it was on the way home, either browsing books or using the library computer. back then though it was mostly the childrens section of books and documentaries and what not. eventually i moved onto the more adolescent themed books and then grew tired of those and started really browsing the maze of shelves containing the books i had always had some sort of awe of because as a kid i was clearly out of place there and always was too afraid to go into out of unfounded fear that i would be bothering someone... suffice it to say ive spent a lot of time in libraries and have a lot of fond memories of them. maybe I should get a library card in the city i currently live

You too viraat ! And sorries. If i dont make it fast enough or it stresses you guys out dont stress about making mine. Actually just dont its not worth the stress for you guys. I can always make my own you know. I just think participating what i could was very fun and seeing what people wrote too exchanging stuff was fun.

Im reading the cat cafe man thing right now in spite of it really not being what i usually can get myself to read in style and story cause id already started on others or read them and they were too long for me to re-read or be able to read in time now.

Good weekend viraat and please invite me again or if others do it too cause its been really fun to me despite not being the best at writing myself and getting to read in time. Its still made me read now and that makes me happy. So thanks for doing this very fun game viraat a co.

See you. 🐑

Berserk, looking at the 2016 adaptation and its sequel. But I'm only saying this because I haven't played the Umineko VN (or read the manga) to compare it to the anime

I don't think I have an answer to this one; I'm not super interested in adaptations in the first place, and of the ones I have seen the only one I didn't really think much of was Chainsaw Man, but I'm not really interested in seeing it done better either. It's almost certainly at least partially because I prefer manga in the first place, but in general "the same as the manga but in motion" doesn't really appeal to me, so I wish more adaptations weren't focused on being so faithful - Pop Team Epic and Getter Robo are great examples, and although I haven't see it yet Trigun Stampede and Stargaze are of interest to me for that same reason.
I think I would be interested in another go at Soul Eater or Kurogane no Linebarrels however, even if it was just a faithful adaptation. Not to say that the Soul Eater anime was bad, and I haven't even seen the Linebarrels one, but both of them got animated less than halfway through the manga's run and there's some really cool fights in both series that I think I actually would like to see animated.

I had originally intended to share more of my thoughts on Nausicaa after I had read volume five, but it turns out that I don't really have that much to say, so I'm going to save it all for when I finish it tomorrow instead.
