I was going to make the same point but then I saw your post. I was disappointed that MP the guitar teacher talked so much about a foot stomp, but not a word about the guitar scream - the anguished, desperate cry of a hopeless addict in the abyss captured perfectly on an electric guitar. Absolutely this is the musical highlight of this masterpiece.
Yeah Tool is just larger than life man. Songs like this are pretty simple, but the band just blows it up to be the most monumental musical expression. This song gives me chills.
Sorry to rub it in but I saw them in November and it was the best concert of the decade for me no question. The fact that security was actually enforcing the no cell phone policy allowed it to be a truly immersive experience, fully locked into their performance with the insane visualizations on the screen making it feel like I was being abducted. They put up a 10 minute timer before returning for the encore and I witnessed a paranoid guy run for the exit saying it was our last chance to escape
seeing how excited you get over this even already being a huge fan makes me feel ok cause I get that excited every single time I listen to any of their songs
This is the song that introduced me to Tool. Things snowballed from there and now I own a Gibson Les Paul that I practice on every day. Also, love the analysis. Gives me things to throw into my playing to get the vibe I want.
Michael...Your reaction to this monster classic was also classic...I must have seen this video 10 times already and it always brings out my over the top reaction to this great band we all love ..Tool....Thanks for posting it.
Tool was my first rock concert and they have been my favorite band ever since. They changed my life .....and it was during the Lateralus album when I saw them for the first time.Spirtual experience for sure!Seen them about 8 times since then.....took my daughter to see them for her first Tool experince. She is 10yrs old.Passing that torch 🔥
This is the very first (tool) song I remember completely embracing my soul. I felt understood for once. This is also the first song I fully defended with my mom, and a big fight broke out, I stood my ground, and my beautiful journey with tool began . You absolutely rock Michael. Thanx again...
This Song Is Almost 30 Years Old & No Rock Song On The Radio Is Touching This. Not Because I’m A Fan But Because They Made The Music & People Came To Hear What They Were Doing. They Didn’t Chase A Genre.
I've seen Tool 4 times now. My favorite was 2003, New Haven Coliseum which was scheduled to be torn down. Tool arranged to be the last rock concert to ever be performed there. I remember standing there, looking down at the pit and seeing all these black flakes raining down. I thought it was part of the show until I looked up and saw it was paint flaking off the ceiling because they were so loud. And I mean soooooo loud. But halfway through, Maynard came out and announced these 2 percussionists that came on stage. They proceeded to conduct a half hour drum performance with Danny. It was unbelievable. The greatest drumming I'd ever heard. And it was a half hour. I had tickets to see them this year until I got the same refund email. I want to see Tool live as many times as possible.
I just LOVE how excited you are! I've finally found a person who's as passionate about this video as I am and I'm so happy! This live is truly a MASTERPIECE and I get chills every time I watch it. I've just found you out and you've earned my subscription with this haha, thank you so much for this video!
I absolutely love watching someone adore Tool. Best band ever. You are amazing as well! - loved looking at the song from your perspective. I learned more about notes and scales that I've ever learned. Keep up the amazing content.
Your love for this band and music in general is very obvious in this video. It's so inspiring to see you authentically loving the song, not just emotionally, but breaking it down music theory-wise too. Watching this made my day. Thank you!!
I just discovered your reaction vdieos and i think for some reason even thoough i have no musical learning i can relate to everything you explain about the feeling and feel like i felt when watching this for the 400th time.. this is ageless .... i grew up with tool and im 38 now. I appreciate your appreciation of this amazing band.
Love your recognition of Maynard’s relationship to and embodying of the song. It is so critical to how amazing this band is. I saw them at Lollapalooza for the first time in ‘93. My band mates and I at the time swore that no band could pull off the timing shifts, tightness, and most of all the passion they captured on Undertow. I’ve never been so glad to be wrong.
This guy looks like half the friends and guys I grew up with in Dana Point CA in the 80’s & 90’s. Definitely not a bad thing but I know a SoCal guy when I see one and made me think of those days. Miss them.
Just stumbled across this. I LOVE your reaction. Exactly how i felt seeing them do this live years ago. I could watch this indefinitely and never tire of it. I was physically drained and sore the day after their show. F*cking amazing.
Salty intro! Lol love it, I never listened to tool much, but over the last 6 months or so they hit me like the bluegrass bug. Fat, crunchy and drop kicks you right in the soul!
As a Tool Addict, like the rest of youse guys n gals, I have been introduced to so many great reaction channels in the last year since FEAR INOCULUM. But holy shit, Michael's might just be the best. One of my new goals in life -- tongue only half in cheek, for real -- is to learn to love something, _anything_ , as much as this man does while watching this video. Truly, without cliche, without the Hallmark card semantic destruction of the word: *Inspirational.*
These guys are still AMAZING live. I was at the show where they recorded the Pnuema Vic Firth video in Boston in November, and the whole night I don't think they missed a note.... 100% one of the top bands I've ever seen live.
bruh... i could listen to you break down Tool all day long! love the excited random arm flails as you listen, i have my own style and get roasted on for that shiz on the daily
Why have I not heard of you before Michael?! Your reactions are freaking awesome!!! You've hooked me to your channel! Keep up the fun intense reactions! I can tell you love it!
You noticed the stomp too. I look for that every time I see this. Must be a musician thing. We use to cover this. Always a crowd favorite. Nice axe, I currently play a Jackson Pro Soloist SlQ2 Mahogany Edition.
There is no love button on RUclips😢 soooooo great. TOOL is so musically genius. And they have stood the test of time, and then some. I truly appreciate the raw emotion you have for content you love Palmisano. Well done man
Also I know I'm not the first on here to admit that sometimes when I watch this it pulls so viscerally on my heart threads that it almost brings me to tears... yeah he's that good 🤗
You nailed this. I have never seen anything like it. Extraordinary performance, very powerful! On top of everything, this music does not seem easy to play. Stunning.
I've watched several reactions to this performance, and this is the only one that makes note of that "stomp" at the end. That one thing made the whole performance for me. That one move is what this was all about, for me! It always pissed me off to look at the "reactor" at that moment, only to see them not acknowledge it. Infuriating!!
How he is hunched over singing is extremely difficult and he makes it look so easy, the man is special in how he writes and performs. Definitely one of the best concerts I have been to is Tool, no sorry the Absolute best concert.
My absolute favorite band! We saw them again on 3/11/20 in Portland. As we left the Moda Center they were announcing the shut down of the country. So, we were at the last Tool show. So glad we went!
I found your channel in my recommendations because of the video you did on Colter Wall’s Devil Wears a Suit and Tie. Lately I have been really into Colter Wall, Tyler Childers, and Shakey Graves so I figured I go ahead and scroll through your channel and watch your videos on them. Then I saw this video. Tool is what I was raised on and has been my favorite band since I was a boy. This song specifically has so much meaning to me since one of my earliest childhood memories is listening to it in the car with my mother. I lost my mother to addiction in 2015. Her being my best friend, that was the hardest thing I had to deal with in my entire life. I was in the deepest and darkest of places, honestly I didn’t think I was going make it out alive. This song was all I listened to for about two months straight after the incident. It gained a new meaning to me, the lyrics cut different, I could feel the darkness in their tones. Since then it has became my favorite song because even though I listened to it a lot in a dark place it reminds me of her and my childhood memories. Maynard James Keenan will forever be my favorite artist. Thank you for returning me to my roots, I definitely enjoy your channel and will be sticking around brother.
One of my all time favorite bands, no doubt. Michael your a wonderful watch, everyday I try to watch at least one of your vids, I always learn something as well as I always get to connect with you as well. Since I’m 17, most kids my age don’t know Tool and even if I share it with them they easily did approve it only cause it’s either to loud or to long. Their long songs are a journey and that’s why I absolutely love all their music
3:24 Maynard's 1993 foot is entering your studio. This is the power of Tool, warping our perceptions of space-time and reality.
OMG AMAZING. You sir, get the pin.
"A lot of people"? I doubt that. I agree with the rest
No matter how many times I watch this performance I have chills every time.
Yes. The intensity!!!
Me as well. Full body chills every time!
Gotta love this guy's excitement. It reminds me of when I was a teenager listening to Tool for the first time.
To me the Guitar scream at 15:58 has always been and will always be the best part of this song and also it's culmination.
I was going to make the same point but then I saw your post. I was disappointed that MP the guitar teacher talked so much about a foot stomp, but not a word about the guitar scream - the anguished, desperate cry of a hopeless addict in the abyss captured perfectly on an electric guitar. This man came home from vacation to do some videos. That is the definition of dedication. Throughly impressed with your work ethic.
Thanks Alex!!! That's the deal. Can't stop won't stop!
Tool is one of those bands that can really make you feel a tune, Maynard especially. Also nice tan sir
Fully agree. Tool has a key (or a tool if you will lol) that directly unlocks moods
Yeah Tool is just larger than life man. Songs like this are pretty simple, but the band just blows it up to be the most monumental musical expression. This song gives me chills.
I about spit out my drink when I read the tan part
Thanks Bob :)
One of the best things about this channel is just the pure love you have for music, i love it. You gotta do 46 and 2
Sorry to rub it in but I saw them in November and it was the best concert of the decade for me no question. The fact that security was actually enforcing the no cell phone policy allowed it to be a truly immersive experience, fully locked into their performance with the insane visualizations on the screen making it feel like I was being abducted. Dude. I saw them in DC. EPIC
He was probably on shrooms
Michael Palmisano I WAS THERE
Saw them in Boston-I was iffy on the cell phone thing in the beginning, but it really does help the immersion.
Saw in Cleveland in November. I'm only in my 20s but I grew up listening to their music and to see them live....I could die happy honestly
Finally someone who feels the same passion for this song and understands how amazing it is!
Thanks!
Best comprehensive analysis video of _"Sober"_ so far, but _whatever_ analysis is proffered, _everyone_ *feels* it.
seeing how excited you get over this even already being a huge fan makes me feel ok cause I get that excited every single time I listen to any of their songs
I love your passion for these guys! F-ING TOOOOL!
A lot of people compare Maynard to God, which I never really understood. I mean he seems like a cool guy and all but he’s no Maynard.
Its like when people say hitler was all bad, I mean he did a lot of bad things, but he did kill hitler!
@@scottrinck9630 There more i learn about that guy, the less i care for him.
Hahaaa! So good - all the lol's...
😂😂
Best comment ever!
This is the song that introduced me to Tool. Things snowballed from there and now I own a Gibson Les Paul that I practice on every day.
Also, love the analysis. Gives me things to throw into my playing to get the vibe I want.
im 17 and I saw them in January as my first concert ever and im afraid im never gonna see anything live like it again
I'm sorry to say you may never see a show like that again from another band. Tool as the first show is a blessing and a curse.
Michael...Your reaction to this monster classic was also classic...I must have seen this video 10 times already and it always brings out my over the top reaction to this great band we all love ..Tool....Thanks for posting it.

If bands put the effort into their music as you did with caps.

with love, hate, love from aic and tears of a dragon from bruce dickinson under my top 3 live performances ever...

How you enjoy Tool makes me so happy!
Thanks for the amazing deconstruction and appreciation!
Really appreciate all the explanation you did in this video about the technical aspects of the song, helped me a lot. Thanks
Havent clicked on one of your videos quicker than this!!
i feel the exact same way you do when i listen to Tool. sometimes i have to exhale because i'm overwhelmed. sometimes i tear up. such a visceral band.
I agree and thanks for choosing This specific video and Tool rocks 🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Best Reaktion ever .... maynards body language is so insane He lives this song so deep from inside ..i love that Performance so much

Greatest band of all time.
"Look at him!" "Yeah stomp!!" 😂 love these individuals, tool since 92'✌

I enjoy seeing people appreciate this as much as I do 👍❤️🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
Absolutely loving your Tool reactions mate👍
Seen TOOL 5 times 1996 in Houston. They put on an amazing show.
One of the first songs I ever learned how to play on the bass by ear. So simple yet so powerful and fun to play.
… I love your passion for this band I feel the exact same way!
I'm impressed with your analysis. Good job
Tool. the only metal jam band worth their salt. excellent choice.
If they're not salt worthy, noone is :)
Do me a favor and look up a band called Spaceslug. Report your findings.
Jazz Odyssey
Well there's King Crimson, but any of those would be instantly blocked
Ooh, don’t let metal heads hear you say that!
There is no love button on RUclips😢 soooooo great. TOOL is so musically genius. And they have stood the test of time, and then some. I truly appreciate the raw emotion you have for content you love Palmisano. Well done man
I love that you are honest. You have seen it but that doesn't mean you cant be honest and tell us what you think.

Yup that was intense and love the moment.
Absolutely!
That repeated movement caused old Nardo to get his hip replaced.
Man I can tell you are really loving this I mean this is the best performance EVER I love tool my favorite by far
I'd love you to do more Tool videos! Especially going into some of the technicalities of their genius.
You feel every ounce of this, every time. I remember when this song was released...been a fan of Tool ever since. Well done man!
awesome, at this video randomly somehow, love how you enjoyed this as much as i did!!!!
Man, your energy & enthusiasm are infectious. Love the vibe, the insight and the band. Well done sir.
phenomenal song and extraordinary presentation ...
“4 big D’s”. Gotta say I chuckled at that 😂
And then cranking on it! Lol

This is by far the best performance of any kind I've ever seen.
This one of the best songs ever…..they are so intricate with everything they do…I have such an appreciation of this bands genius….great breakdowns

Spot on
Man this is so powerful. Im a rocker but just recently got into listening to TOOL. My reactions are like yours . Rock on!
"visibly uncomfortable like an addict" that was a good comment, man. This song has always just hit for me
I got chills watching this.
Your excitement is so genuine..
4:59 to 5:01
"4 big D's just cranking on it." That sounds like that should be Tool's tagline.
tool
love it
Thank you for being so dedicated ❤️
This is gold. Thank you sir. 😊
Michael love your tool reactions bro!
You get it🤘🏻
Always love a good Tool reaction! Still waiting on that Punch Brothers video. Seriously, any live performance would do.
Saw them in November in LA and had floor seats... damn what a concert
I have the same reaction as this guy everytime I listen to TooL
Great reaction
Heard this song 1000 times but this whole video gave me chills!
This is the best Band of the World
Best vocal
Best drummer ❤❤❤
holy crap this song and the performance is out of this world I love it
