It wasn't the "thick smoke and toxic gases" that prevented ground crew from getting to the astronauts. The outter cover of the capsule (connected to the escape tower) covered the actual capsule. That cover also had a hatch. During the process of "buttoning up" for the test it was discovered that the outter cover hatch did not quite align within it's frame and the ground crew (knowing there would be no launch) simply forced it shut so that the test could occur. Additionally, there was a special tool used to secure and unsecure that hatch that was misplaced during the confusion of completing the final tasks for the test. Furthermore, the inner hatch was designed as a "plug" which opened to the inside of the capsule which required the capsule to be vented before the hatch could be opened. When the fire broke out, ground crew got to the capsule but, they were unable to open the outter hatch and they could not find the tool that was used for that purpose. On top of the that, because of the fire, the internal pressure of the capsule was so high that the inner hatch could not be opened by the astronauts. During all of that time did smoke and gas accummulate on the crew gantry? Yes. It was not the primary reason the ground crew could not get to the astronauts. The issues with the escape tower capsule cover and the "plug" style hatch resulted in a rather large redesign of both. "Go at throttle up" isn't a command, it's a status update. The actual "throttle up" (the increase in the engines' thrust that takes place as the shuttle clears the denser part of the atmosphere and can afford to accelerate faster) takes place about 60 seconds after liftoff and is controlled by the onboard computers. The call you hear is the CapCom on the ground telling the commander that all their telemetry looks good as that is taking place and the mission can proceed ("go" generally just means, "proceed with our plan, all is well").
@@josephdelp87 A shift in national priorities resulted in Lyndon Johnson and then Richard Nixon killing anything in the future; Johnson because he was having trouble with Vietnam and the Great Society and Nixon because he wasn’t interested in manned spaceflight and the Moon had become controversial with the public and congress by the time he became president. Nixon even wanted to amalgamate NASA with other government departments, and of course, he never liked John Kennedy and didn’t want to prolong his legacy. It was extremely expensive; at its peak it consumed 5% of government spending and each mission cost $1 billion to put two men on the Moon for a maximum of 3 days, a sum which was not financially sustainable during the early 70’s economic recession. There was no political imperative to go back to the Moon, by anyone, as there was to get there in the 1960’s Cold War, which was a completely different time, except now for commercial reasons. Even Apollo 8 commander Frank Borman said. 'Any idea that the Apollo programme was a great voyage of exploration or scientific endeavour is nuts. People just aren't that excited about exploration. They were sure excited about beating the Russians.’ NASA did not deliberately ‘destroy’ the technology to go to the Moon. A lot of the blueprints still exist on file, but the equipment was custom built and much of it is archaic. Many things cannot be bought “off the shelf” and have to be specially manufactured. Re-designing from scratch is cheaper and better. However, it takes years to build up that sort of expertise and NASA is going through the same problems it had in the early to mid-60’s. Rocket technology has not progressed much at all and although modern computers are far more sophisticated, they are far more vulnerable to particle radiation than those in Apollo that used low density integrated circuits and magnetic core memory, both of which are extremely radiation hard, and a lot of work has had to be done to remedy this. There is also no cold war imperative, not as much funding and no presidential imposed time limit. The mission requirement is very different from Apollo. The duration of stay is longer, the terrain will be rougher this time with longer shadows and a heavier lander. We also live in much more risk averse times. All these issues are what has caused it to take so long this time around.

About that knocking sound the Chinese astronaut heard. When I learned about that for the first time back in those days, I immediately thought about some loose metal part, maybe behind a panel or so. Ok, this metal part needs to be in motion, swing back and forth. How would that be possible in weightless state moving with constant speed? Maybe a kind of airflow from ventilation. Anyway, sounds freaky, but there were for sure no aliens knocking on your door wanting to say 'Hello'.
To add some context, Grissom kicked a wrench igniting the oxygen rich atmosphere and burning the capsule to death. My Dad was there. He was known for fit throwing.....
Challenger death was instant they didn't feel anything once that orange tank blew that was it, Columbia on the other hand was more horrific because they definitely knew once the wing disintegrated the fuselage tumbled like the rifleing of a football, documentary says two died from concussion and broken neck and the rest had violently broke up with the aircraft scattered several hundred miles. When you and Tenerife had ocean gate and 9/11 , Jones town, Hindenburg lot's of horrible ordeals of death and destruction have occurred the last 200 years

It was January 1986. What are you talking about.
I was only a child when Ed white, roger chaffee and Gus grissom died in apollo one. But i was a born space fan. All these years later listening to guss grissom screaming for help, well i found that quite upsetting.
Excellent presentation, animated without exaggeration. Thank you.
Other than the exaggerated title of the video?
@@joecobb5520 Yes, true, but I'm glad it encouraged me to watch the video which was worthwhile in ways unanticipated. We do see too much of titles like that.
Knocking on spacecraft was going from direct sunlight to dark difference between 210 degrees hot to 245 degrees below 0 ya you will hear something
He should've opened the door. Prepare some coffee or tea. That's impolite.
I don’t know of if I believe the one about Neil Armstrong about they are watching us. I am 53 and never once heard that and this guy said he never heard it til now. So I just don’t know bout that part
U gotta let us hear the videos
Apollo 1 was murder. Gris was about to blow the whistle.
The story of Kamorov is deeper that, he said alot more than that
May their memory and bravery live forever.
When you and Tenerife had ocean gate and 9/11 , Jones town, Hindenburg lot's of horrible ordeals of death and destruction have occurred the last 200 years
Thank you for getting Lovell's words correct. I always correct people on this if I can.
But to go to moon and come back was never a problem...only today.
They are waiting for China or India to get there first so they won’t be all pissed off.
Read a book and let some light into your room. We went to the moon a handful of times costing more money than anyone who shares your DNA will ever see. Try to grasp that amount of money then ask yourself why send another manned mission to the moon when we can send unmanned missions for a fraction of the cost. The education system should be ashamed
Cold air does make rubber hard like your car tires get lower air pressure in the winter than they do in the summer that's why you haft to put more air in during the cold months rubber has oil in it and makes it thicker in cold.
Ppl ,,look up nasa astronauts still alive,,,then come back and tell what u think.
Check it out properly and stop falling for the bs conspiracy theories.
@@captain007x think you should,,,sheep everywhere,,lmfao,, Muppet
THEY DONT COME BACK THE SAME.😮
& most often they are hidden from public life, media & events.
@@jaygee2759 Go away and try convincing others as poorly informed as yourself.
@phildavenport4150 your an idiot,,,,go see for yourself you muppet,,talking about things you know nothing it seems,,hope you not got kids.
Why is it with all the knowledge of space flights, advanced camera works they don't land on the moon anymore
Because they never did
Second case... i'm connected to the Linkedin of one of the "deceased" astronauts 😂
My deepest respect to ALL astronauts dead or alive……..
BALLS OF STEEL
That whistling sound is actually Saturn
What were the last words?
Apollo 1 had a hatch that opened inwards. The capsule was pressurized making it impossible to open.
I worked with Greg Jarvis at Hughes Space & Comm Group in El Segundo Ca. for a few years. Sad day when we lost him.
"My God, it's full of stars!"
You all shall not be forgotten, and that Chinese man might freak out when someone knocks on his door at home.
I remember one of the pilots of the space shuttle said they are flying under us
I have not, nor will ever be this brave, God speed to all, RIP!
Very interesting James, unfortunately these accidents happen,I hope the Astronauts didn't suffer in any way, more videos please, karate Tim 🥋🙏🇬🇧
Moon is covered in mysterys
Dark side of the moon - Pink Floyd 💗
Pink side of the moon - Dark Floyd😅
They're watching us from the moon. I can see that happening. A lot of people make their own homemade ecosystems in glass jars and aquariums. What if humanity was put on earth a long time ago and all we really were was a reality TV show to them?
How about “What do all these buttons do?”
'Houston, we've had a problem!', was NOT the last thing the Apollo 11 crew said in space, seeing as they managed to get round the Moon & back home again!
Apollo 13. The lucky mission.
@@phildavenport4150 Isn't this the spaceship where they ran out of oxygen and they couldn't stop farting in there?
Thank you.
IF ... THEY EVER WENT TO SPACE ...
Please don’t slap these people and their families in the face.
People that weren’t even born at the time quote this rubbish. Do you think Russia would have not reported to the world if the Americans faked this?
They went
That is extremely disrespectful
John Young was the first Shuttle pilot. The lighting in the photo at 11:54 simply does not look like real sunlight.
8:09 the story is way worse than that he knew that he would die I would like a episode of just kmarov
When I first read the title I thought it said "Australians", and wondered if enough had ever been in space to say 10 terrifying things.
Took the day off work to watch challengers lift off, so disturbing
I was in my senior year of high school when the space shuttle blew up online tv .Every classroom had a tv hooked up for everyone to watch it .Itwas one of the worst things I ever seen. I’ll never forget it .God Bless all of the astronauts that lost their lives that day.🇺🇸🫶
Faked event
You shouldn't have gone to school that day
They knew the O-rings were bad
Should have included Astronaut Scott Kelly when he snuck in the gorilla suit and scared the living shit out of the crew
one day they will find the mane Man God😂😂
So. Very true!
Poor Niel. He thought he was on the Moon with someone looking at him. He didn't realize it was just Hollywood stagehands.
You're conspiracy bull has long been debunked. Jeez!
CIA drugs. Very effective.
Technically, the Columbia crew died in space. Space is only 60 miles up. I know, I hate when people do that too.
no one died ON SPACE.
they died in the atmosphere.
The 3 soviets did.
The scariest thing is
There is no sound in space.
Yes, there is!
Planets sing
Your a bunch of gays
1986 challenger crew lived … rabbit hole is deep about everyone
Not for long though. They must have experience absolute terror. 🙁
@@deendrew36 nah they actually lived look it up
@@Wehaveshortshorts they are not alive. Some members were thought to have survived the initial breakup of the crash, but did not live for much longer afterwards. Implying that they survived and just walked away from their families would sure be a slap in the face to them.

NASA knows that the rocket challenger would exlpode but "don't waste money"
#10 Bad door design.
#9 Pilot did the right thing. Kept trying to fly the shuttle. His last words? "Oh shit"
This whole vid is 'dubious'!?!
Even you are dubious
@pkb122 ...you are!!!!
@lovosazul beware....I am an alien
@pkb122 beware, we're ALL aliens!?! =]
NEIL ARMSTRONG WAS HEARD BY AMITURE RADIO ENTHUSIASTS LISTENING IN. IM SURE YOU CAN FIND THAT INFO SOMEWHERE.
If the Chinese astronaut had only looked a little bit more, he would surely have found the reason for the knocking sound clearly marked on his spacecraft: "Made in China."
For your information beautiful ❤️ families 🙏 the Moon is not alone 💋 muah👽👽👽👽👽👽
I thought you were gonna say the Chinese Astronaut was curious enough to open the door to see who it was 😂😂😂
Watching us? The Chinese??? 🤔🤔🤔🤔
All they need is 40,000 of their warriors to take care of things
BTW,
A B bus under -volt means a. Loss of electrical power on that. B- bus ,

where's the audio recording of the last thing they've said.. all I see here is this guy yapping

Armstrong never made that statement.
He did. In the toilet.
I don’t think we are meant to be up there
And that's why I'm never going to space
The film on the challenger of the astronaut's faces was too graphic to be shown.Which is the news report?I saw when It happened.tmyn
