What is up with the "windmill" ads that so often precede pages?

You know the ones I'm talking about.

You click the link to some pics or vids and there is a "pop-up" of alternative energy or something and a high-tech windmill that you have to close to get to the content.

Is there any "danger" with that pop-up or is it just annoying?

It's with one of the free image host sites.

When you click the link, a new tab or window opens and you see the image, but above it is the windmill energy ad

I'll post a link next time it happens. I think it's just an ad (like the livejasmin.com ads that come up on a lot of these sites in a separate tab), but just wanted to check.

Its not on FreeOnes, its on ImageVenue. Thats one of the ways for them to make money.

I close it, then reopen the link with the image and it does not come back until the next day.

It also gives people the chance to bail; if the link was clicked inadvertently (aka n00b); also they do it to prevent (per-say) access to 'explicit' material; as some "net nanny" internet screening services does a 'pre-fetch' to scan the picture/content.
