Alexander Abkhazava (born 28 October 2006) is a Russo-Georgian racing driver who most recently competed in the 2024 Eurocup-3 season with Saintéloc Racing.[1][2] He previously competed in the 2023 F4 Spanish Championship with Drivex.

Career

[edit]

Karting

[edit]

Abkhazava mostly competed in Rotax karting, and in 2019 he won his only European title in the Rotax Junior category, in the Rotax Max Challenge International Trophy.[3] This was followed by some consistent results in 2021 and 2022 as he stepped up to the Rotax Senior category.[4]

Formula 4

[edit]

In early 2023, it was announced that Abkhazava would be stepping up to cars with R-ace GP in the 2023 Formula 4 UAE Championship.[5] He finished 28th in the drivers' standings, with a best result of 9th place at Kuwait Motor Town.[6] Abkhazava then moved over to Europe, and he would be competing in the 2023 F4 Spanish Championship with Drivex.[7] He subsequently finished 24th in the standings to cap off a disappointing year, with a best result of 10th.[8]

Formula Regional

[edit]

In January 2024, it was confirmed that Abkhazava would be contesting the full 2024 Formula Regional Middle East Championship season with Pinnacle Motorsport.[9] Abkhazava had a breakthrough season, finishing in 15th in the standings after a best result of 4th place in the first round at Yas Marina.[10] He ended up scoring 20 points over the course of the season.[11] He is set to drive for Saintéloc Racing in the full 2024 Eurocup-3 season.[2] On his debut, he finished 2nd in an eventful race at Spa-Francorchamps.[12] He secured his first victory in the championship in the third race of the third round at Algarve.[13] However, Abkhazava endured a tough second half of the season in the series, seeing him fall to an eventual ninth-placed finish in the championship standings.[14] Abkhazava then contested the 2024 Formula Regional World Cup, hosted at the Guia Circuit in Macau, where he finished 9th.[15]
