Centre Point Sabah is a Malaysian shopping center located in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, East Malaysia. It is one of the earliest shopping malls in the city of Kota Kinabalu, along with The Karamunsing Complex and Wisma Merdeka.[3] In 2024, this shopping center officially connected with other shopping malls through The Skybridge City Centre Kota Kinabalu.[4][5]

History

Development at the Initial Phase as well as Design

The development of this shopping center building project was taken over by Sunyap Development Sdn Bhd, a local development company wholly owned by Pacific Construction Co. Ltd. from Taiwan, in collaboration with the Kota Kinabalu District Council. The shopping center was built on land with an area of 4.6 acres over three phases. During the first phase and the second phase, a total of six floors were built containing a supermarket, 400 shops, 1,380 parking spaces, 1 floor for office use, 1 floor for entertainment areas such as a bowling center, cinema, recreation center for families. Center Point Sabah shopping center began operating on 24 July 1990.

Opening

The shopping center complex worth RM120 million was inaugurated by the chief minister of Sabah on 25 August 1990.

Success and Expansion

The last phase consists of Palm Square, a high-end retail establishment that sells branded goods while CPS Tower is a floor that provides office blocks with an area of 80 feet. This phase was completed in 1997. Palm Square is located on the 4th floor where customers can use the elevator, escalator and stairs to reach the place. It has a special entrance from the parking lot for the convenience of the public. The area of Palm Square is 17,500 square feet under a canopy with a height of 80 feet.
