The New York Rock Festival (NYRF) took place in August,1968. It was produced and promoted by Gary Kurfirst, a Forest Hills, Queens local, and Brooklyn-born, Shelly Finkel. The 3-day event took place at the Singer Bowl in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens, New York. The New York Rock Festival preceded Woodstock by a year (August, 1969). [1][2][3]
Artists appearing at the NYRF were the Doors, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Big Brother and the Holding Company (with Janis Joplin), The Rascals, and The Vagrants. It was reported that over 18,000 people attended the Aug 23rd Jimi Hendrix show.[4]
