Draft:Millennium Force's effects

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Millennium Force has featured various effects and decorations since the roller coaster's opening. These can be found throughout the ride's station, queue, entrance, and cable lift. Below is a brief history of them all.

Station

[edit]

Within the station, Millennium Force's theme music can be heard playing on loop.[1][2] This has been a staple of the ride since before it was constructed, being featured in 1999 promotional VHS tapes that introduced the ride.[3] It is made up of two different songs combined; "Technonaut" & "Hot Pursuit" respectively.[4][5]

Audio also plays when a train is dispatched from the station. Being introduced in 2024, there are currently four confirmed sets of audio.[a] The audio sets and their effects stem from the previously mentioned promotional VHS tape video, as well as a 2000 promo of the ride after it opened.[6] A futuristic voice narrates both of the promos, thus it's also featured in the dispatch audio.

  • (Introduced in 2024) Audio Set 1: *unidentified sounds* "Greatest Thrill Ride Ever"[7]
  • (Introduced later in 2024) Audio Set 2: *sound similar to wind stirring* "Go Full Force"[8]
  • (Introduced later in 2024) Audio Set 3: *heartbeat with electricity-like sound* "At the Turn Of The Millennium, There Were Signs"[9]
  • (Introduced late in 2024) Audio Set 4: *powering down-like sound* "It's Out There, *unintelligible*"[10][11]

Millennium's station has red overhead lights that hang above the track. These lights previously could turn on and off in a strobe-like sequence.[12] This no longer a feature, and the overhead lights now simply stay on throughout the operating day.

The station also features projector-like lights that display on the left-hand side of the track.[13][14] These were introduced in 2000 when the ride opened, but were deactivated at some unknown point in time. They were still visible in the station despite not being used. In 2024, however, they were spotted to be functioning once again, with different designs than the ones previously used.[b] They only operated at certain points throughout the season as weather and outside elements could affect how they ran.

When boarding Millennium, pre-recorded audio may play that instructs riders how to board and enter the train, as well as additional information about the ride.[15][c]

On the exterior of the station facing the queue, a large "2K" can be seen.

Queue

[edit]

While not as prominent, there are a few features in Millennium Force's queue. The queue itself is made up of mostly of out and back metal handrails for people to wait in. Vending machines, blue overhead canopies, and televisions tuned into "Fun TV" can be spotted throughout. There is also a Fast Lane line; the park's "skip-the-line" option.[16]

Millennium Force, as well as other rides throughout the park such as Raptor, used to have a DJ Booth. These "Jamming DJ's" would play park-appropriate music, as well as take requests from riders waiting in-line that also met those same guidelines.[17] Jamming DJ's are no longer used, but the concrete base of the booth is still clearly visible to this day.[18]

During Cedar Point's "The Battle for Cedar Point" experience, boards were put up in Millennium's queue that went along with the game.[19][20] They featured the robotic integration of Millennium Force as well as some additional text. These were removed after the event concluded.

Additional features

[edit]
An earlier installment of the Golden Ticket Award signage; no longer used.
A current installment of the entrance.

Small "banners" outside and near the ride display different slogans about to ride. These include but are/were not limited to: "310 Feet Of Woooooow", "The Future Is Riding On It," and "The Original Giga".[13]

Millennium Force's sign also featured a display of the Amusement Today Golden Ticket Awards its won. This was introduced later in the ride's life, with the space it now occupies previously blank.

Millennium Force's cable lift used to have audio that played while ascending upwards, as well as when returning to the station. There are rumored to have been multiple iterations, but only one known variant is preserved today.[21][d] This was removed at some point between 2004-2009. The audio said the following:

"Welcome to Millennium Force. Sit upright facing forward and hold on tight--keeping your hands, arms, and legs inside the car at all times. Thank you, and enjoy your record-breaking ride on Millennium Force."

The audio continued when the train would return to the station, saying:

"Welcome back riders, how was your ride? At this time, please unfasten your seat belt. When the train comes to a complete stop, lift up on your yellow restraint bar and exit carefully to your right, down the exit ramp or stairs. Thank you for riding Millennium Force and enjoy the rest of your day at America's Roller Coast, Cedar Point."

Millennium Force has multi-color LED lights that display on the ride's cable lift hill supports at night.[22]

  1. ^ There is no proof of the dispatch audio existing before 2024
  2. ^ It is possible that the lights sync up with the ride during a dispatch. However, due to a lack of evidence, this can not be proven
  3. ^ The audio claims that Millennium Force will reach a top speed of 92 m.p.h., but the top speed can actually be 93 m.p.h.
  4. ^ Some of the audio within the video was added in post, like the rock music. Sound effects play when the train goes through the ride's two tunnels. It is unknown whether these were added in post or were previously part of the ride. The same goes for the sound effects that play after the dialogue's recording
