Breast

[edit]

Hey there! Saw that you made the last edit to the "Breast" article on Wikipedia. I found this line in the article:

For about 5%[11] to 10%[17] women, their breasts are severely different, with the left breast being larger in 62% of cases.[17] This is due to the breast proximity to the heart and a greater number of arteries and veins, along with a protective layer of fat surrounding the heart located beneath it.[18]

The stats are correct, but the second sentence is entirely false. The reference provided is a journalist who makes the claim in an online article, but provides no references. The left breast's proximity to the heart has absolutely nothing to do with its size. The heart receives blood by way of its own coronary arteries (which branch off the aorta), and it has a self-contained venous system that returns blood to the left atrium. There is no collateral vascular circulation associated with it. The fat pad that surrounds the heart is entirely contained within the thoracic cavity (the limits of which are the rib cage). No part of the fat pad emerges from beneath the rib cage, and it does not distort the ribs above it. I don't know how this misinformation got into the article, but it definitely needs to be removed.

I'm a fourth year medical student at Stanford University. I'm no breast surgeon, but I've rotated through the breast surgery service, and have completed a cadaver dissection. The left breast is definitely not bigger than the right because the heart is beneath it. If you can remove this sentence, or can pass this along to someone else, it'd be much appreciated! Thanks!

Hey, C Messier, first, thanks for your contributions! I've declined the above deletion, technically it's not a case for "speedy deletion", but if you've no use for the stale draft, let me know, or another admin know, and I/they can delete it, and we'd be happy to do so. Help expand stubs?

[edit]

It looks like you create articles on the NGC catalog. That's great. I also do that. However I only make them stubs. If you want you could help expand some of the stubs into real articles. I have a list of all the articles I have started on my page. AdrianWikiEditor (talk) 08:11, 27 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

On 13 March 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article NGC 765, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that spiral galaxy NGC 765 features a hydrogen disk that at 240,000 parsecs diameter is the largest in the local universe? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/NGC 765. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, NGC 765), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

6 months later.. Still remember me?

[edit]

It's been 6 months (half a year) since we last chated. I have grown TREMENDOUSLY since then. I have created 50 articles and pushing myself to change at least 20 of them to start articles. I don't know when It happened. (maybe literally after this happened, they're all stubs by the way) or maybe my quest to become Autopatrolled. I have switched (at least half) to computer based editing. Even though 45 or so were stubs, I still had, 1. Contellation and discoverer + source 2. Infobox all sourced with RA, DEC, appmag b and v (where acceptable) 3. Constellation 4. Redshift, HRV and 5. Other names. NGC 918 is an example article of the stuff I used to make. Now I am improving (based off the stubs I already create like above) into NGC 5793 and J1124+4535 (this one was mostly a community effort. Really proud. However I need some help for my new and improved articles. I need journal sites. (I already have databases NED and SIMBAD, if you have more that you use, let me know). I am currently using ADS as my only journal. I'm also looking to expand my infobox with more information. Please tell me what I should improve on! I've been inspired by you. P.S I have a Google Doc of what I have done and what I need to work on. You can check it out here.
