Creating Articles
[edit]I see you created an article that definitely belongs in the project. Therefore, you should goto the talk page and put {{WikiProject College football}} there. Then the page will become part of the project. If you want to attempt to rate the pages and classify them as well, you can do that too. See the Assessment page. But generally, DI-AA pages should be Low importance. Thanks for your efforts. MECU≈talk 18:31, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry I called them DI-AA. I guess I remembered looking at one of them that used to be I-AA but is now I-A. Anyways, the info you're putting on there is all very basic. There definitely needs some expansion and writing. Some of them would be very short (was it FAU that just started 4 years ago?) compared to schools that have 100+ years of history. But every page needs a starting place. I have intentions to write the Navy and Air Force pages sometime. I hope you've discovered the Master Team Table within the project located at: Wikipedia:WikiProject College football/MasterTeamTable. If you have a favorite team that you'd kind of like to adopt as well, you could get more in-depth with their pages and create season pages for them as well. Just use the year page format. Anyways, keep up the great work. MECU≈talk 02:11, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
CFB WikiProject
[edit]Football, I've noticed you've created several college football articles. They are very much appreciated. You could say us a lot of time if after you created the article you placed {{WikiProject College football}} on the Talk page. This puts it in our category so we know it exists. Once again, thanks for all your help!--NMajdan•talk 01:42, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

Big Ten Football category
[edit]Why have you removed nearly all of the pages, contrary to rules calling for discussion first? Rkevins82 04:36, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not going to throw the book at you (nor can I). I just saw a raft of deletions and wondered why. To complete the category deletion process, though, you do need to open a discussion page for Category:Big Ten football. No worries. I saw the method to your madness after several articles. License tagging for Image:Florida Atlantic Owls Helmet.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Florida Atlantic Owls Helmet.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 05:07, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

College football team infobox
[edit]I'm confused what you're talking about. Can you please provide some links to what you're talking about, especially the disclaimer on the football helmet project? Thanks. --MECU≈talk 02:22, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if using the helmets would be appreciated by the helmet project, and we would have to use them under fair use, which is contentious since it would be considered "replaceable" and therefore violate FUP #1. Also, with him saying "Re-distribution of the images en masse on CD or other media is absolutely prohibited." makes me further believe they wouldn't appeciate it. Even if he were to license his images freely, we would still have to use them under fair use because the designs are most likely owned by the universities (or maybe NCAA, but likely the Uni), though I would believe that we would then be able to use these images on Wikipedia, because it's the logo/design that's copyrighted and there would be no way to get around that. You or I taking a picture would still have the same restrictions. So, my thought is to contact the site owner and specifically ask him to release the images under a free license. Do not have him upload to Commons since the logo would be copyrighted. Be sure to let him pick a free license (I recommend CC-BY-SA-2.5, but any free license will do). See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for help with this, especially under "Images". Until we receive his agreement to freely license the images, I won't work on putting the images into the infobox. I believe you have a high chance of success of getting his permission, especially if you tell him we want only 1, the current helmet of each DI-A school, to be used on 1 page only (the "<School> <Mascot> football" article). If you had him upload the images he allows, with a disclaimer that he is the owner, it is also located at his website, but other images on the website are not licensed under the same license. I would be happy to help you gather all these images, apply the fair use tag, make sure his license is acceptable and write the "stock" fair use rationale we would need. It would be best to have him upload the images, because if you or I did, we would need the email from his forwarded to Wikipedia which could cause snafus. Anyways, contact him, ask him to license his images freely, specifically ask him to say "I release under <license>" (ie, GDFL, CC-BY-SA-2.5, etc). Good luck! --MECU≈talk 13:43, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
- Howdy again. I happened across New England Patriots and looked at the helmet image at Image:New England Patriots helmet rightface.png and they claimed fair use. If it's good enough for the NFL, it's gotta be good enough for us. Thinking about it more, we'd have to have it under fair use even if that website owner released the images because of the logo. They even have it built in as mandatory to their template at Template:NFL team, where just using this template on a page requires the helmet logo to display. Someone thought ahead and build a naming convention for the images once uploaded. So, if you haven't already asked for permission of the website owner, we could just go this route which I'd be fine with. You should bring this up at the WP:CFB and this could be a large off-season project, if you want help with it. If not, you can do it all yourself too or I'd be glad to help you if you want to keep it simple. My thought would be to upload all the helmet images for pages that have the school infobox page on them, then add it to the template. Since we're dealing with fair use we can't have orphans for more than 7 days. Adding it to the template should be fairly easy to do, especially with the example from the NFL template. Anyways, lemme know your plans and if you want help. (Sorry for kind of over reacting before.) --MECU≈talk 15:31, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
Sorry to intrude, but I came across this article whilst poking about in hopes of finding some agreement to use the helmet images created at The Helmet Project. Is this what you and MECU are discussing? If so, I'm all for it and would be glad to help as well. I think it would really spiff up the College Football project and lend a sense of continuity to the articles. Pepto gecko 04:59, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
WikiProject Big Ten newsletter, February 2007
[edit]Hello all Big Ten Wikipedians, here's the manual newsletter (becuase I suck with templates :P) on February. As it says on the Wikiproject, this month's main article is the Big Ten Conference, primarily because that article needs so much help right now. Everything seems to be going well so far. I'd be helping more but I had other things I was doing. Glad to see a lot of members joining though. I'm thinking of starting an assessment division of our own, but I'm not sure yet. Give me your opinions on if we should start tagging people as well btw. If you guys wish to start tagging college presidents of them, that would be a good start. The project is still partially in development, so any advice helps. Go Bucks! (and spartans, badgers, wolverines, illini, etc.)--Wizardman 01:27, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
Orphaned fair use image (Image:Miami Hurricanes Helmet.gif)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Miami Hurricanes Helmet.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Template question on Gopher football page
[edit]Hi - I got your message about the seasons template that you removed and I later put back. I probably should have come straight to you instead of just posting a message about it on Minnesota Golden Gophers football's talk page. I asked about it there and when nobody objected, I put it back on the page. I understand what you're saying about it, but I think it works better to use that page as the main jumping off point to all information about the team instead of the category page. On that page, everything is listed in alphabetical order instead of being arranged how we would like it. I also suspect that most people using Wikipedia don't use the category pages - I had been on here for 6 months before I ever looked at one.
Having said that, maybe there's another way to accomplish that other than including the template on the page. I'm certainly open to suggestions to make the articles good and easy to navigate. Gopherguy | Talk 15:11, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
Disputed fair use rationale for Image:BYU Helmet.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:BYU Helmet.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 11:24, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Football79! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 2 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:
