Mass edits to NPC articles

[edit]

Hi Rugbyfan22! Maybe you've noticed, maybe you've not, but an editor is making mass changes to the NPC pages (and has also done the same to Super Rugby articles and Heartland Championship articles). Some of them seem justified, like replacing all instances of "rugbybox collapsible" to un-collapsible rugbyboxes for reasons of accessibility. Some others are pretty trivial, like removing spaces from the code. However, some others just have to do with the personal preference of the editor and are unnecessary (for example, changing the parameter of a "home" game to "team1" and "away" game to "team2", although both work perfectly fine).

One of the changes causing problems is replacing the Template:Rugby union team and Template:Rugby union stadium with the name of the article those links go to. Like replacing {{Rus|Apollo Projects Stadium}} with [[Rugby League Park]], [[Christchurch]]. This results in the old stadium name appearing in articles, instead of the one that is in use during this specific season, although it's technically the same venue. In my opinion, the articles should mention the name that is in use at the time. Similar: we call the Bunnings NPC the Bunnings NPC now, and it was Mitre 10 Cup, ITM Cup and Air NZ Cup previously. We're not going to change that in articles either. The "Auckland Blues"' name changed to Blues; we're not going to change that in older articles either.

If you can find the time, I'd like to ask you for your opinion. You can find my - quite frustrated - response to the editor here. And here is an older discussion. Maybe you agree with that editor, maybe not, but I've lost all appetite for editing due to all his edits. Ruggalicious (talk) 02:08, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that some of the changes are trivial and don't really make too much difference to the articles, but don't see any real harm in changing them if the editor wants to change them. They make no real difference to the articles. In terms of sponsored names for stadiums, it's my opinion that if sourcing for the specific season uses a specific stadium name then we should be using that name, as has been local consensus for Super Rugby, Currie Cup, NPC and other Southern Hemisphere competitions on Wikipedia since I have been editing. In Northern Hemisphere and other sports such as football it seems that using non-sponsored names is preferred, probably hence the changes, but as I said this is the way it has always been done since I've been involved in editing, although the majority of editors involved when I started no longer edit. Merging National Provincial Championship

[edit]

I’d like to hear your thoughts on whether it makes sense to merge the two National Provincial Championship articles. I know this was discussed previously but ultimately rejected due to concerns about information overload. I believe combining them into a single article would benefit readers, similar to how other long-running domestic competitions are presented. This would provide a more streamlined resource, preventing duplication across two pages. Emulating something similar to the Australian Football League would make sense and easy to implement if fellow editors are on board. Kidsoljah (talk) 07:58, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Update Akira Ioane's Wikipedia article as information is outdated.

[edit]

Please update Akira Ioane Wikipedia page as it's outdated. Thanks Power1345 (talk) 09:21, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

To Rugbyfan22 and Power1345: I do not make a habit of replying to requests on another editor's talk page without being asked to do so, but I was already working on an update of Akira Ioane's page, so it seems appropriate to make an exception. I have just finished and published that update.
By the way, it's good to keep an eye on this page, because editors keep on incorrectly changing his birthplace to Japan, while the player himself has stated he was born in Auckland and the text contains a reference to a source that also states that fact. Sources that say he was born in Japan are wrong! Ruggalicious (talk) 16:04, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
