WikiProject Bible

Some Wikipedians have formed WikiProject Bible to better organize information in articles related to The Bible. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians.

As a group, we do not prefer any particular tradition or interpretation of the Bible, but endeavor that all Biblical teachings, historical accounts, and prophecy are fairly and accurately represented. If you'd like to join and become a part of this project, sign the Membership Page.

Tasks

These are some things you can do to improve the quality of Wikipedia coverage of the Bible.

1. Attract attention from editors interested in the Bible and Bible-related topics.
2. Look over the recent changes list for recent improvements to articles, other changes, and vandalism.
3. Create collaborative projects to systematically improve coverage.
• Possibly including:
1. A regular collaboration.
2. Adopted Topic, where a suite of topically related articles are targeted for improvement until there's a consensus to move on to a new topic. (see here)
3. Article Review, for articles nominated by members for wider review. In this case the new ones go at the top and sink as new ones are added. (see here)
4. Improve the WikiProject Bible banner that goes at the head of Talk Pages to handle tags for unreferenced, copyedit needed, cleanup needed, expansion needed, and POV warning.
5. Help the Maintenance Department
1. Add more reward templates or barnstars (awards can be found here, and have people in the task force actually watching logs and rewarding key contributors.
6. List of Good Projects to look at and copy from.
1. Wikipedia:WikiProject_Judaism
2. Wikipedia:WikiProject_Christianity This whole layout came from this one.
3. Wikipedia:WikiProject_Military_history
7. Use commons:Category:Bible for majority of uploaded media.
8. Assess the articles that fall within the project's scope through the Assessment unit, making it easier to know how the various articles with which the project deals with stand.
9. Add all pages that fall within the scope of this project to the list at Wikipedia:WikiProject Bible/Articles by category
10. Patrol the list at recent changes for recent improvements, vandalism, or other changes to these articles.
11. List of all subpages of this page to organize the work that is done here. Please feel free to pick out a page and help out.
12. Popular pages: A bot-generated list of Bible article pageviews, useful for focused cleanup of frequently viewed articles.

Creating a New Article

11 easy steps to producing at least a B article
Starting from scratch and want to know how to take it from "0 to 60"? Follow these helpful tips! Some parts are also useful for already-existing articles.

Type a title:
and click "Create page"

1. Create a new page.
2. Create an outline for the article you started:
3. Add the appropriate infobox.
4. Add the Bibleportal to the article and the BibleWikiProject template to the Talk page.
5. Populate your article with images such as obtained from Wikimedia Commons, image list, or by posting a request for an image from other Wikipedians.
6. Add the appropriate categories.
• Since categories at the bottom of the articles interwiki linked in your article may be appropriate to place in your article, go through each interwiki link in your article and review the categories at the bottom of the linked article for inclusion in your article.
7. Confirm that the interwiki links, footnotes, and external (non-wiki) links in your article go where you want them to go.
8. Post an article request at Wikipedia:Requested articles for each broken (red) interwiki link in your article OR remove the double brackets around the broken interwiki link OR write that article as well (these are your only three choices).
9. Publicize your article by ...
10. Request peer review of your article ONLY after you believe that you completed all the above steps.
11. Relax! and take a break if you reached this point. You deserve it!

Goals

1. Unify the presentations of the Biblical canon (cf. Apocrypha, Books of the Bible, Septuagint, Old Testament, New Testament).
2. Unify presentation of the individual books of the Bible.
3. Keep Bible translations pages in order.

As with any Wikipedia project, be aware of other sources and consolidate information in the appropriate places. Collaborate with related projects, wikis, and websites and be respectful of people's differing opinions. See particularly WikiProjects Judaism and Countering systemic bias in religion

Please discuss any goal changes in the talk page. For reference, there is also an archive of this topic.

I have a good knowledge of Latin, and some experience with Koine Greek. I own several translations in several languages.[reply]
114. JohnChrysostom (talk) 02:10, 18 December 2011 (UTC) I've a BA in Philosophy and Comparative Religions, and am pursuing graduate studies as a Latin-rite Catholic seminarian. I can read Pseudo-Attic (i.e. Plato) and Koine Greek as well as Classical, Medieval, and Ecclesiastical Latin. Study of the Bible is a personal passion, rivaling my passion for philosophy, theology and ancient history. I own all of the major and most of the minor English translations (DRC, KJV, ASV, Knox, CCD, RSV, RSV-CE, RSV-2CE, Jerusalem Bible, NAB, NIV 1984, NASB, NKJV, NJB, REB, NRSV, NLT, OSB, NETS, NABRE, etc.), several versions in other languages, the Clementina and Nova Vulgatae, as well as most of the Greek source texts (W&H, NA27/UBS4, TR, Hodges-Farstad Majority Text, Rahlf's Septuagint, Brenton's LXX), with the exception of the Gottingen LXX. I have on hand also most ancient pagan and Jewish sources referring to the Christians or Jesus, the 38-volume collection of the Fathers, etc. if anyone needs anything referenced. If I would have to declare areas of expertise or specialty in specifically Biblical studies (without crossing in to theology or ecclesiastical history or the Fathers, where there is some overlap), it would be in the LXX, the OT canon, the non-canonical texts of the intertestamental and NT periods/pseudepigrapha, and the NT canon, with several other subjects in close proximity.[reply]

Naming conventions

Naming conventions

• For people: John Calvin, unless others by that name exist, in which case the activity for which the individual is best known should be bracketed, e.g., John Calvin (reformer) (not John Calvin (scholar), John Calivn (theologian), etc.)
• For clergy: (minister), (deacon), (priest), (bishop)
• For scholars: (theologian), (philosopher)
• Other possibilities: (author), (martyr), (missionary), (religious)
• For other subjects: The simpler the title the better, with redirects or disambiguation pages, as necessary.
